Spooking Yourself
by Lonnie Mackley
Spook DEF: To startle and cause nervous activity in; frighten
RO 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to
fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father.
When we become involved in a lot of occult or scary things, it oftentimes
has the effect of spooking ourselves. This may seem like good honest fun, but the truth is that if you spend too much time
playing with darkness, darkness may soon come to play with you. Watching too many paranormal shows or horror movies,
going on ghost-hunts or ghost-walks, playing occult games with your friends at sleepovers, or associating with people that
embrace the occult can act as a volition of will to a spirit of fear or a demon that wants to enter your life.
If you allow a root of fear to enter your heart you believe a lie
that you are defenseless in life against evil, and this belief can open up a hole in the spirit-realm and allow dark
things to come into your home, life, and body. If God has called you to help the haunted or evict spirits from homes
or bodies then just remember to keep things in balance and do not allow yourself to be seduced by spiritual darkness.
There have been a number of Christians that got a little too close and hungry for spiritual knowledge and they ended
up lost in the occult.
When an evil spirit enters a home they will progressively try to scare
the residents there and make them feel like they have no control or protection against the evil. Demons actually feed off
of the fear and it gives them more power to do even more scary things in your home.
The best thing that you can do is to not foolishly allow a demon into your home
by playing around with the occult (like with a Ouija board). Demons are liars and they will impersonate dead relatives, or
even pretend to be a ghost that needs your pity and help. Don't believe it!
If you are a child of light then you need to remain in the safety of
the light and only enter the darkness to do God's will as He directs you to. Actually anyone doing paranormal work should
be a Christian. Keep your TV and Internet viewing habits at a healthy place for you spiritually, and avoid overloading
on paranormal media. Scaring yourself seems like fun but it is like opening up a hole in your home and hoping that nobody
comes in and gets you. If you stay close to God's light you will be safe and avoid spooking yourself in
the darkness.
1JN 1:6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk
in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we
have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
